You may have seen people talking about BSides Memphis and wondered… what exactly is BSides?
Security BSides is a global community-driven cybersecurity conference series that started in 2009 as a grassroots alternative to large industry conferences. Today, BSides events take place in hundreds of cities around the world and bring together professionals, students, researchers, and curious newcomers to share ideas, research, and real-world security experiences.
Unlike large commercial conferences, BSides events are organized by the local community, for the local community. Talks are selected through an open call for presentations, the atmosphere is collaborative and approachable, and the goal is simple: create a space where people can learn, share knowledge, and connect with others who care about security.
So why Memphis?
Memphis has a growing cybersecurity community, but opportunities to gather locally around technical security topics have been limited. BSides Memphis is a revival of a past local event and a chance to reconnect the region’s security professionals, students, hobbyists, and researchers with each other — and with the broader global security community.
Whether you’re a seasoned security professional, a student exploring the field, or just curious about how things get hacked and protected, BSides Memphis is meant to be a welcoming place to learn something new and meet the people building the local security community.

Mission Statement
BSides Memphis exists to deliver an accessible, community-driven cybersecurity conference for the Mid-South. We bring together security professionals, students, hobbyists, and the simply curious to learn, share, and connect in a place where ideas move freely and no question is too basic to ask. We give both new and experienced voices the same stage, because the people just entering the field have as much to offer as the ones who have been in it for years, and the best way to strengthen a community is to let it teach itself.
Our work is rooted in collaboration, creativity, and accessibility. By keeping the event affordable, showcasing local talent, and drawing on Memphis culture, we are building a security community where people connect, learn, and choose to stay. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which keeps BSides Memphis community-owned and focused on people, not profit, and committed to growing into a lasting home for security in the Mid-South.
